Back in the fall Traction of Cincinnati gave me the exciting creative task of illustrating for an exclusive themed deck of cards for Bicycle. These cards can only be purchased by Bicycle’s 808 Club members.

Jules Verne’s most popular books: Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, and From the Earth to the Moon was the theme. I had a blast working on these, all while learning a bit more about these stories and Jules Verne himself. It was a great excuse to rent the movies as well.

While adhering to the traditional reflected and reversed style of playing cards I also allowed my own style to come through. I was given great creative direction by Traction on what characters might best represent each face card. Each of these four stories also had a vessel that played an important role. We allowed those vessels to represent various face cards as well.
